New filings in the Epic vs. Apple legal battle have shed additional light on Apple’s decision-making process regarding bringing iMessage to Android. As it turns out, Apple senior VP Eddy Cue pushed for iMessage to come to Android in 2013, but was overruled by other Apple executives. As first spotted by the Verge, this new detail comes via a new deposition made public as part of the Epic case. The document details that Cue wanted to dedicate an entire team to porting iMessage to Android....

European lawmakers are going to meet on June 7 as they look to finalize an agreement to enforce a single universal charging port law, which would see all mobile devices sold in the EU be required to offer USB-C ports for charging. This idea has been circling in the minds of EU regulators for almost a decade, citing environmental e-waste benefits. The plans have previously drawn strong pushback from Apple, who intimated it would stifle innovation....

Following investigations into Google and others, EU privacy watchdog group known as the Article 29 working group have today issued new guidelines for mobile app developers. The group is made up of EU data and privacy protection authorities, and the new recommendations extend to “all other parties involved in the development and distribution of apps under European data protection law.” That means Apple’s App Store, Google Play, and other app marketplaces could be affected....

Apatosaurus This lumbering, gentle giant was one of the biggest dinosaurs to ever roam on land. It had an incredibly long neck and an even longer, whip-like tail. Paramount Pictures is developing a reboot of John Woo’s Face/Off. Even by 1990s action movie standards, Woo’s original 1997 hit is a bit ridiculous. The film starred Nicolas Cage and John Travolta as, respectively, a maniacal killer named Castor Troy and FBI agent Sean Archer - the man who’s been obsessed with catching Castor since he murdered Sean’s son. When Castor plants a bomb but is knocked into a coma before he can tell Sean where it’s at, the latter decides to undergo facial surgery and (literally) swap faces with him, in order to stop the attack....

It was reported last year that Facebook accesses your location even when you have switched off Location Services for the app, and the company has now confirmed this in a letter to two senators. The company says that it uses three different methods to track user locations, only one of which needs Location Services… The company says in a letter addressed to Senators Christopher A Coons and Josh Hawley that it can also look at people’s activity....

To close out Phase 2, Marvel Studios brought Ant-Man to the big screen after years of developmental trouble.
