A year after announcing podcasts and other audio initiatives literally everywhere on its platform, Facebook is now backing out of the business, according to a report by Bloomberg. Starting June 3, podcasts won’t be available on Zuckerberg’s social media anymore. Bloomberg’s story says that starting this week, Facebook will stop letting people add podcasts to the service. Not only the company is removing its central audio hub, but also the short-form audio product called Soundbites says a note sent to partners....

According to multiple sources, Facebook will unveil a new service today that can identify television shows and music playing in the background. Apple today removed the highly-popular battle royale game Fortnite from the App Store after an update that added a direct payments feature to bypass Apple’s In-App-Purchase system. While Epic Games is now taking legal action against Apple, the game company shared an article detailing how Apple’s decision will impact Fortnite players. Epic Games claims that the 30% fee Apple charges for each transaction through the App Store system forces developers to increase prices for In-App-Purchases....

The European Union wants to be able to force US tech giants like Apple, Google and Microsoft to hand over electronic evidence across borders when investigating serious crimes. The proposed law would apply to any company that does business within Europe, no matter where its data centers are based. Facebook released version 13.1 of its iOS client today with a rather uninteresting change log noting that the app had received “bug fixes” and nothing more.
