Luke Cage star Mike Colter has found a new home at CBS in a supernatural drama pilot titled Evil. This new series is a reunion of sorts for Colter, as he also starred in the hit drama The Good Wife for five seasons, a series co-created by Robert and Michelle King who are also the creative forces behind the new pilot.
Colter developed a massive fanbase after landing the titular hero role of Luke Cage which spread across the Marvel universe appearing in The Defenders, Jessica Jones and the self-titled series, Luke Cage on Netflix. Recently it was announced that due to Netflix’s Marvel universe ending, Colter must bid farewell to Luke Cage as it joined the list of cancelled series. It was announced today that the television world would not be long without Colter commanding the screen in a leading role, as he’s now joined the cast of the much-anticipated CBS pilot Evil, set to air in the fall.
According to TV Line, Evil is the brainchild of the Kings, who will also take the reigns as writers and executive producers. The plot is set to focus on a skeptical female clinical psychologist who joins forces with a priest-in-training and blue-collar contractor as they investigate demonic possessions, unexplained phenomena and situations claiming to be miracles. Colter has been slated for the role of David DaCosta (the priest-in-training) who’s tasked by the church with assessing the various supernatural cases. Previously announced cast member Katja Herbers (Westworld) is set to play the role of the psychologist.
The pilot of Evil joins a long list of contenders for an official spot on the CBS fall 2019 line-up. Other shows battling for the chance to be the next series with longevity are a spinoff from Dick Wolf’s FBI, a spy-thrilled called Surveillance, and a show based on the tales of Frankenstein (but with a new twist). As the series premiere of Evil gets closer more details will unravel, including the additional casting choices of who will join Herbers and Colter in examining the battle between science and religion.
With a show centering on investigations into the paranormal and supernatural, it’s necessary for the main characters to fight the battle of believers vs. skeptics to create the perfect conflicts and balances, such as with The X-files and Supernatural. After Colter’s long runs as the characters of Luke Cage, Lemond Bishop in The Good Wife, and Locke in Halo:Nightfall, the actor has shown strength and versatility and no doubt is fit for a battle against forces of Evil that can’t be explained.
