Evangeline Lilly has been tapped to star in and executive produce an eight-part sci-fi drama series, Albedo, set to launch on Vudu. Albedo will mark Lilly’s return to television after her recent appearance in Avengers: Endgame, as well as Vudu’s first original series.

Set 150 years into the future, Albedo follows Detective Vivien Coleman (Lilly), who is launched into the solar system with the mission to investigate the death of a scientist who was aboard an isolated space station. As mysterious events begin to unravel, the detective finds herself surrounded by murder suspects and secrets - all while being cut off from any communication with Earth. Parented by Walmart, Vudu’s platform will carry out the eight-episode murder mystery. Founded in 2010, Vudu is a digital video-on-demand service. Available for Smart TVs, certain streaming devices, game consoles and from an app, Vudu offers a staggering library of content. Conveniently sorted into Movies, TV, and free content, Vudu’s platform could soon emerge as a favorite in the streaming platform wars. Now, Vudu is adding its first original program.

According to Dateline, Albedo is set to begin production this month. The original series is the brainchild of Entertainment One, Brad Peyton and Bell Media. Distributed exclusively in Canada on Bell Media’s platforms and in the U.S. on Vudu, Albedo has been in the works since 2016. Along with its enticing plotline and powerfully backed platform, Lilly’s star power adds to the allure. Recently coming off a slew of blockbuster films, including Ant-Man & the Wasp and The Hobbit, Lilly is mainly noted for her work as Kate Austen in Lost. Despite ending almost a decade ago, Lost is still the center of controversial conversations, including Lilly speaking out about the ambiguous series finale and her discomfort in being pressured to film a nude scene. However, Lilly is entering back into the land of television with her new starring role. A senior director from Vudu, Julian Franco, expressed his excitement about the project:

Along with Albedo, Lilly is currently working on the film Dreamland by Nicholas Jarecki, set to premiere next year. Albedo is in the hands of executive producers Lilly and Max and Adam Reid (Sneaky Pete) - who co-created and are the writing forces behind the series. Peyton (Frontier, San Andreas) has been tapped to direct the murder mystery. With the creative team toting an impressive list of action, adventure and suspense projects to their names, no doubt they prove to be a seasoned team to take on Albedo.

“Vudu is one of the fastest-growing video-on-demand services, and providing exciting original and exclusive programming like Albedo at no cost to our customers is key to our continued growth,” says Julian Franco, Vudu. “With an incredible team bringing this series to life, including actress Evangeline Lilly, I can’t wait for Vudu viewers to be thrilled when they tune in. New programming efforts like this will delight audiences and allow Vudu to offer a unique value proposition to brand partners and advertisers.”

Albedo isn’t the only original content on Vudu’s roster. The streaming platform also plans to release a live-action family adventure movie and an entertainment news program. However, Albedo has Lilly. The talented actress has proved that she can take on a role thrust into adventure and mystery while handling it with grace. Lilly may be the key to gain traction to the streaming platform, Vudu, with its foray into the original content world with Albedo.
